Repairs: These smaller machines are actually more difficult to work on due to their compact design. Disassembly is more labor intensive to gain access to the repairable subsystems. Unfortunately, most machinery that cost under $100 new is simply not worth repairing due to the labor involved, plus parts. Example: if a $80 string trimmer needs a carb rebuild, you are looking at $25 minimum for parts plus $30-$50 in labor costs. Why would you spend $75 to fix it when you can go purchase a new machine with a warranty for a few dollars more? Of course, repairing a more expensive machine is more cost effective. The choice is yours!

Chainsaws: Chain sharpening is an art that is very time consuming. The most cost effective way to obtain a sharp chain is to buy a new one, then obtain the necessary files and practice yourself on the old, dull chain.

String Trimmers/Weed Wackers: Spools are a common trouble complaint. A new spool is usually the best way to resolve line feed issues, and they are easilly replaced by the owner. When replacing cutting line, you can usually go up one or two sizes in cutting line diameter for better performance & longevity but don't over do it. A smaller engine will have a difficult time getting the spool up to proper operating RPM with a load of heavier line - and cutting performance will suffer.

Leaf & Debris Blowers: Other than engine problems, the only complaint is poor blowing performance. If you remove the air inlet screen or safety cover, you may find leaves or other items blocking inlet air - clean out the chamber to restore performance. Holes or cracks in the housing can drastically affect how well it can blow debris. While a duct tape repair will work, the hole or crack can cause an impedement in air flow, and the only way to restore performance is to replace the cracked or broken housing components (this can get expensive).
